Episode 012: ~ ONE, two, THREE, four and ONE, two, three ~ September 27, 2010

This week the woes of a totally blown brake line, Arno made his final choice of guitar and students gone since the summer are back, there are 6 students in the Spotlight, the Question of the Week was why are eighth notes beamed in groups? It confuses me & when the beam stops and it makes ME want to stop!, News is about Friday Guitar Care Seminars at the Martin Guitar factory in PA and Take Note focuses one last time, on buying a guitar - this time wood top vs all wood acoustic or acoustic electrics.

Intro:
Sorry about skipping a week, but losing my brakes last Monday derailed my best intention to get this show recorded and posted last week. My apologies! Arno (the bat guy) chose a Taylor 110 CE (I knew he would) and has it in his eager hands, welcome back Elliot, Merav and Olivia.

Student Spotlight:
6 students made it into the Spotlight this week. Keep up the good work

Question of the Week:
Why are eighth notes beamed in groups. It confuses me. Why can't there just be 1 beam for all of them? When the beam stops, it makes ME want to stop.

News:
Guitar Care Seminars every Friday at the Martin Factory in Nazareth, PA. The September Student Review will be included in next week's episode.

Take Note
The benefits of considering an all wood guitar over a wood top guitar. They're twice the price, so not for everyone's budget, but they may be worth the extra bucks or the extra time it takes to raise the extra bucks.

Outro:
Thanks for joining me.

Take a good look at your music to see if the editor has given you any clues as to the rhythmic emphasis you should employ, and maybe you'll consider an all wood guitar if you're in the market for a new axe. Congrats to the Spotlight Students. Keep up the excellent work.

Episode 011: ~ Martins & Taylors & Breedloves, Oh My! ~ September 13, 2010

This week I discuss more about guitar shopping, there are 3 students in the Spotlight, the Question of the Week was a student calling me out on something I said last week (good for you, I like a person who listens & thinks!), News is about the 3rd annual Woodstock Luthiers' Showcase and Take Note focuses a variety of travel guitars. Some, are out there!

Intro:
On Saturday, Arno (the bat guy) and I went to look at and play some guitars he's considering buying. His favorites were the usual suspects, but I'd like him to play some others before he purchases. This will be a 2nd guitar so although he'd love to have it yesterday, there is no need to rush into it.

Student Spotlight:

Question of the Week:
Hey! On last week's show you said not to get a 1/2 or 3/4 size guitar because they usually aren't tunable. Mine is!!

Email Me if you'd like to submit a Question of the Week or suggest an additional segment topic. If I use one you submit, I'll send you an official Guitar Technique Tutor Podcast pick.

News:
The 3rd Annual Woodstock Invitational Luthiers' Showcase will be October 23 & 24 in legendary Woodstock, NY

Take Note
There are a variety of travel guitars out there. Some are downright astonishing in design, others are just little guitars and still others are bizarre but get the job done.

This week I discuss going to get a guitar with a student, there are 4 students in the Spotlight, News is about the subscription links (Yay!), the August Student Review is a segment and Take Note has tons of advice about buying guitars. If you're going guitar shopping any time in the future, PLEASE do yourself a favor and LISTEN to this podcast.

Intro:

Julia and I went to get her 1st guitar last Saturday. She was a perfect 1st time guitar buyer. Mature about how the guitar looked and objective about size, fit and sound. Go Julia!! She went home with the perfect Takamine for her.

Student Spotlight:

4 students made it into the Spotlight this week. Keep up the good work

Question of the Week:

This week, I combined with Take Note this week because the August Student Review is in this episode. The question is how do you buy a guitar?

News:

All the subscription links and methods I have been tinkering with since I began podcasting in July, are FINALLY UP AND WORKING!

Student Review:

This is the student review for the month of August. I listed students in alphabetical order by first name and critiqued the past month. I plan to feature a student review as part of the podcast the 1st week of each month.

Take Note:

So, how should you buy a guitar? By brand? By what your favorite artist plays? The cheapest? Online? On TV? By color? Here's the best guidance I can give you, without actually going with you. Most of what I say is in the link below. Please remember the info is ©2010 by D A Arlaus and is for your edification only.
